My insight, or why I shoot on film
Many years ago, at the time of early space exploration and my early childhood, we would make white shiny rockets from small rolls of photographic film and foil. They would randomly rush about city courtyards, driving themselves into the nearby sky; leaving behind trails of romantically pungent smoke. Since then the sky has become distant and film - safe ...

Look...Sometimes, in order to draw attention to something talked about, the advice is – look, so, look…Strange thing. The more people snap more pictures with better and more affordable equipment, the more aware we are of a dearth of both images and the people who shoot them (we can be just as precise by saying take them - as take here means to "move something off of something else", usually the surface of a plane). Look – ideally a minimum of two words should soon appear, each referring to different kinds of photography. The word photography will, of course, apply to the black and white variety – which photography actually is. Because all hues of light exist within black and white, the main point here is wholeness. Look – the perfection of light is so real, that the less any other reality is present in a photograph, the more truthful the photo is. A photograph is not a document. It even has trouble differentiating decades. A photo is not about what once was, but about (at least) something that always is. It is not supposed to fixate anything other than space encapsulated in streams of light – not color, lines, or configurations – just the coexistence of several dimensions on one plane. Look… Photography is the theory of relativity embodied – having to do with time, space and the speed of light. In this case, the fewer shots taken, the more photography profits. Remember the photos of our forbearers at the beginning of the twentieth century? Remember how faces photographed only once in a lifetime look? The same applies to the photographers themselves. Each photograph as a one of a kind. Listen, someone once said that a country producing three hundred varieties of cheese is impossible to defeat. A country where at least 94 photographs can be found no doubt exists. The following is something even you cannot explain. Why is each photograph in fact about you? |
